All-Star Achievers / 2001

Wednesday, April 11, 2001

They work hard to be at the top of their class, yet they find time to help people in need.

They are valedictorians, star athletes, musical marvels. Yet they end their day by ladling soup for the hungry, visiting the sick and the elderly, and serving their communities in dozens of other ways.

They are the 2001 class of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette All-Star Achievers, as nominated by their teachers and selected by editors of the newspaper. They represent seven areas of the Post-Gazette's circulation, were chosen for their academic excellence, accomplishments in extracurricular activities and community service.

Each public and private high school in the region was invited to nominate up to three graduating seniors for the Post-Gazette's annual All-Star Achiever awards. Editors from each of the newspaper's suburban editions and the community affairs staff then selected 10 winners from each suburban area and the city.

The PG also honored teachers, chosen by the students, who have had the greatest impact on their lives. A brief biography of each student, and the students' essays honoring their teachers, are below.
