Fayette man arrested after chase, fight
Sunday, September 05, 2010

A Fayette County man was arrested early Saturday in North Union after state police said he led them on a wild chase, plowed his car into a Uniontown police car and then fought with officers.

Ryan P. Lavery, 29, of Lemont Furnace, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, fleeing and eluding police, and driving under the influence following the incident at about 2:40 a.m.

State police said troopers attempted to pull over Mr. Lavery for several traffic violations but he ignored their lights and siren. While police pursued Mr. Lavery over numerous streets and roads, they said he traveled in the middle of roads and failed to observe numerous posted signs and motor vehicle laws.

At the intersection of North Gallatin Avenue and Hogsett Lane, Mr. Lavery's car rammed into the front end of a Uniontown police cruiser and continued on North Gallatin to the intersection with Whyle Avenue. He ran away, but was captured. He was taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment of injuries police said he received when he fell off a 6-foot-high wall while trying to flee.
