A $4.3 million project to resurface a storm-damaged section of Interstate 79 in Robinson and Kennedy will begin next Friday, bringing off-peak and weekend lane restrictions.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will repave the 4.3-mile section from Crafton (Exit 60) to the Neville Island Bridge. The road was heavily damaged by severe winter weather, causing PennDOT to add the project to this season's construction schedule.
The work will cause off-peak lane restrictions through late November. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions as needed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays, with traffic stoppages of up to 15 minutes possible after 10 p.m. during bridge work.
One-lane traffic also will be in effect as needed from 7 p.m. Fridays to 6 a.m. Mondays, with overnight traffic stoppages of 15 minutes or less after 10 p.m.
The road was last resurfaced in 2001. The contractor on this year's project is Lindy Paving of New Castle.
