On a recent Saturday, I took my two young daughters to see "Toy Story 3" at the South Hills Village movie theater. While we were standing in line to buy popcorn and candy, a lady in front of us told my youngest daughter that she liked her shiny purse.
After my younger daughter said thank you, the lady commented that she had beautiful blue eyes. The lady mentioned that she and her husband came to the movie for a laugh because they had been working all day around the house.
While my younger daughter was staring into the candy case, deciding what kind of candy she wanted, the lady then said she wanted to buy my daughters some candy for the movie. My first reaction was to decline, but she insisted. After she bought them candy, both of my daughters said thank you and the lady went to take her seat in the movie theater.
After the lady had left, my older daughter said that was the nicest lady she ever met. Although she had only bought my daughters candy, I want to thank her again because I think she taught them a valuable lesson as well.
I told my daughters that the lady had done something nice for them for no reason other than she was being thoughtful and wanted to make them happy. I also told my daughters that someday I hope both of them will do something nice for someone for no reason other than to make them happy.

On Aug. 19 my friend and I went to the Meadows casino. As he was off betting, I decided to go upstairs to take a break from gambling.
While going up the escalator, I somehow lost my balance and was getting chewed up by the escalators. With all the onlookers, there was a woman at the top who shut it off.
She was concerned that I was hurt, as I was bleeding badly. She offered her help many times over and was extremely kind, and she stayed with me until the paramedics came.
They edged her away, without me getting her name or thanking her for saving my life, as I am a diabetic. On that day, she was my guardian angel, and I am so thankful to her.

I'm a snowbird and spend six months in Pittsburgh and the winter in Palm Springs, Fla.
Last winter I went to Big Lots to buy a crock pot. When at the checkout, a middle-aged man reached over and took the crock pot out of my shopping cart. I said, "You can't have that. I need it, for I'm having company for dinner."
He said, "Don't you want me to pay for it?" And then he did.
I am an octogenarian and never had that happen to me before. I said to the man, "I wish I could do what you are doing," and thanked him profusely. I gave the money I was going to spend instead to the two churches I attend in Florida and Pennsylvania.
There are more good people in the world than bad!

While working on the filming of "One for the Money" in Friendship, we extras were pleasantly treated to some delicious homemade pizza.
We were in a holding area (a back yard) next to the house they were filming in. A very friendly neighbor on several occasions came out of his house to chat with us, and we jokingly asked him where the pizza and beer were. He said he didn't drink beer, but on the second day of filming he said the pizza was coming.
We thought he was joking, but the next thing we knew, he presented us with three large, delicious pepperoni pizzas, hot and fresh from his oven. We were in such awe that a complete stranger treated us so kindly.
