Jackie Evancho lives up to hype on 'America's Got Talent'
Wednesday, September 01, 2010

Pine-Richland fifth-grader Jackie Evancho, making her semifinals appearance on NBC's "America's Got Talent" Tuesday night, earned two standing ovations from the audience and the judges.

Singing the classical "Con Te Partiro," Jackie, 10, lived up to the hype of the past three weeks when her first appearance prompted an Internet frenzy and established her as one of the favorites to win $1 million and an appearance on stage in Las Vegas.

Judge Piers Morgan said afterward that there were many potential stars still in the competition, but called Jackie "a superstar."

Moments after she finished her performance, at roughly 10:50 p.m., the Twitter-verse was alive with viewer response. It was overwhelmingly favorable, including this from a fan: "OMG!!! Jackie Evancho just KILLED IT on @nbcagt!!! I'm PROUD to be called a Pittsburgher at this very moment!!! :-)"

Viewers vote on the acts they want to advance to the next round. The results show airs live Wednesday night.
