Thursday, March 11, 2010

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's daily and Sunday Sports sections have been recognized as being among the Top 10 Sports sections in the country in the medium newspaper circulation category in judging this week by the Associated Press Sports Editors. The Post-Gazette's section commemorating the Penguins' Stanley Cup championship also was named one of the Top 10 special sections.

The Post-Gazette is one of only nine newspapers in the country in all circulation categories to be honored in all three categories.

Three sports writers also were named Top 10 finalists in the APSE contest: Ron Cook for column writing, Gene Collier for feature writing for his story on boxer Paul Spadafora, and Dejan Kovacevic for breaking news for his story on the Pirates' trades of Freddy Sanchez and Jack Wilson and in project reporting for his examination of the Pirates finances. Winners of the writing awards will be announced in several weeks.
