Dormont planning car cruise celebration

Dormont's Centennial Celebration Car Cruise will feature Dodges and Plymouths that were used in local drag races, cars from the 1940s to the 1970s, along with vintage Chevrolets, Galaxie 500s, Corvettes and custom cars, according to organizer Fred Grosshaupt.

The free event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday along Potomac Avenue, from Belrose to West Liberty Avenue. It benefits Dormont's Main Street Program.

The event will feature musical entertainment by DJ Ed Cyphers.

Many businesses along Potomac Avenue, including Dormont Dogs and the Dor-Stop restaurant, which has been featured on the cable television Food Network channel, will remain open. Potomac Avenue will be shut down from 2 to 8 p.m..
