West Virginia sophomore tailback Noel Devine was named the Big East offensive player of the week for his career-high, 188-yard rushing performance Saturday in a 17-6 defeat of Syracuse, highlighted by his third-and-eight, 92-yard run for a touchdown that iced the victory in the final minutes.
It was Devine's third 100-yard game of the season and his fourth game of 90-plus yards in the Mountaineers' past five games. The award was his first.
Also nominated among the Mountaineers for defensive and special-teams players of the week were: safety Quinton Andrews, who had a game-high nine tackles; and Plum punter-kicker Pat McAfee, who placed four punts inside the 20-yard line while averaging 47 yards per punt and scored four points to not only become West Virginia's all-time scoring leader but the conference's fourth career scorer.
