Penguins lose in overtime to Devils, 2-1
Saturday, October 11, 2008

The Penguins continued to struggle on offense in a 2-1, overtime loss to New Jersey tonight in the team's Mellon Arena opener, a game in which goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was easily their best player.

Zach Parise scored for the Devils with 37.6 seconds left in overtime, New Jersey's 49th shot of the game.

The Penguins split two games with Ottawa last weekend in the NHL Premiere in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Penguins got the only goal of the first period when Miroslav Satan got his first goal with his new team at 11:52.

He swept in a rebound to give the Penguins a power-play goal after they went 1-for-14 in the two games against Ottawa.

Fleury, who had 44 saves through the end of regulation, held strong until 17:30 of the third period, when Patrik Elias scored off the skate of Penguins defenseman Hal Gill to tie it, 1-1.
