"Off the Record VIII" raises money for hungry families
Saturday, October 11, 2008

"When Robots Rule," set 50 years in the future, was the theme of "Off the Record VIII," a musical satire of news and newsmakers that took place Oct. 2 at the Byham Theater. This annual event attracted a crowd of 650 as eclectic as the performers -- members mainly of AFTRA or the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh/CWA. Proceeds benefit the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and others, so all the skewering is for a good cause. A highlight was U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan, who delivered a pre-emptive response dressed as a wicked witch (a la "Wicked," playing just around the corner). To date, more than $175,000 has been raised to help hungry families.
