Crews tonight have closed the Shippingport Bridge, which carries Route 168 in Beaver County, after a routine inspection revealed a single deteriorated floor beam, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman Jim Struzzi said.
The bridge was shut down about 7 p.m. and is expected to be closed for less than a week while crews make repairs.
A detour has been posted from Route 68 to Route 60 to Route 18.
"We are moving expeditiously to conduct repairs," Mr. Struzzi said.
The bridge is slated to be completely replaced, he said, with construction starting in the upcoming months.
