Entertainment News Briefs: 'Dark Knight' DVD due Dec. 9
Tuesday, October 07, 2008

"The Dark Knight," the biggest moneymaker of the year and second only to "Titanic" in all-time domestic grosses, will be released on DVD on Dec. 9. The single disc version will have a suggested retail price of $28.98, with a two-disc special edition at $34.99 or $35.99, with the extra dollar for Blu-Ray.

IMAX scenes will be included on the two-disc set as bonus features while the Blu-Ray edition will use the hybrid of IMAX and 35mm to replicate the theatrical experience. "The Dark Knight" is certain to turn up on many top 10 lists at year's end and could earn the late Heath Ledger an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of The Joker.

McKeesport theater's play dominates Donna Awards

Sunday evening, the Pittsburgh New Works Festival and members of 17 participating theater groups celebrated its 18th season by conferring its Donna Awards, named for founder Donna Rae.

"Man Woman/Hombre Mujer" by Chris Gavaler of Virginia, staged by McKeesport Little Theater, dominated the awards, winning for best playwright, production, director (Chuck Penick) and lead actor and actress (Trent Wolfred and Jessica Kennedy).

Supporting actor Donnas went to Dan Krack (in "Cemetery Plot" by F.J. Hartland) and Heather Gray ("Air" by Robert Isenberg).

The Lifetime Achievement Award to set designer Tony Ferrieri was presented by a previous winner, Marc Masterson, now head of Actors Theatre of Louisville.
