Final score: Steelers take down the Jaguars, 26-21
Sunday, October 05, 2008

JACKSONVILLE -- Ben Roethlisberger and a patched-up Steelers offense lit up Jacksonville last night and the fire should glow back in Pittsburgh for awhile.

Roethlisberger had his best game of the season with 309 yards passing, Mewelde Moore looked like Fast Willie Parker and the Steelers surprised the Jaguars, 26-21.

Not everything was new on offense, though, because Hines Ward caught the winning touchdown pass from Roethlisberger with 1:53 left. Ward, who dropped three earlier passes including one in the end zone, beat safety Brian Williams to haul in Roethlisberger's 8-yard fade pass in the right corner of the end zone.

Neither team scored in the third quarter as the Steelers led the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-14 entering the fourth quarter of their game tonight.

Before halftime, the Steelers came back in the second quarter to lead the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-14. Jeff Reed kicked field goals of 38 and 23 yards, and Nate Washington caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger for the Steelers.

Jacksonville did not score in the second quarter after leading the Steelers 14-7 at the end of the first.

On the opening series Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis intercepted a Ben Roethlisberger pass after Santonio Holmes fell down and returned it 72 yards for a touchdown .

The Steelers came right back with a 71-yard drive that ended when tight end Heath Miller caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Roethlisberger.

Jacksonville, though, made it three series and three scores -- combined, in one form or another -- when Maurice-Jones Drew scored from the one to end a 74-yard drive.
