Man accused of shooting witness is arrested, held
Saturday, October 04, 2008

A Wilkinsburg man was arrested Thursday for a February shooting that targeted a witness in an attempted homicide case.

DuWayne Dixon, 19, was denied bond yesterday after the Allegheny County district attorney's office argued that $10,000 bond was too lenient.

Mr. Dixon is accused of shooting Andre Ripley of Homewood in the back of the head Feb. 28, 10 days before Mr. Ripley was to testify against Joshua Evans, 18, of Wilkinsburg. Mr. Evans was charged with shooting Mr. Ripley during a robbery attempt last year in which a 3-month-old girl also was wounded.

Mr. Ripley recovered and identified Mr. Dixon as the shooter. Police also used information from phone calls Mr. Evans made from jail to implicate Mr. Dixon. He faces attempted homicide charges and might also be charged with witness intimidation.

Mr. Evans, whose trial has been delayed indefinitely, also is being investigated for his connection to the shooting.
