A Fayette County man was killed Thursday when his car collided with a sport utility vehicle in Georges Township, state police said.

Alan W. Smith, 46, of Smithfield, was killed instantly in the crash of his Hyundai Elantra and a Ford Explorer on Southbend Road, police said.

Mr. Smith was traveling south at 8:28 p.m., when he made a left turn into the path of the SUV.

Ashley L. Smith, 23, of Uniontown, who was driving the Explorer, was taken by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., where she was in critical condition.

Her passenger, Joshua L. Morris, 23, also of Uniontown, was taken by ambulance to Ruby Memorial, police said. His condition was not available.
