The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission stocked trout in the following waters: Deer Creek, Lower Deer Lake, Montour Run, Pine Creek, Buffalo Creek, Woodcock Creek, Cascade Quarry, Neshannock Creek, Slippery Rock, Cool Spring Creek, Shenango River, Dutch Fork, Millers Run, Indian Creek and Loyalhanna Creek. Dunbar Creek and Meadow Run are slated for stocking Tuesday, and the Youghiogheny River and Laurel Hill Creek for Wednesday. Some stockings this month have been postponed. Lake Erie: Rainfall and cooler temperatures left streams high and muddy yesterday, and spurred fish movement further up streams. With no additional rain, they may be fishable for the weekend. A first-time steelheader landed a 14-pound steelhead on live bait off the wall Saturday at Walnut Creek. A few other 10- to 14-pound steelies were reported, along with 6- to 8-pounders, in recent weeks. Brown trout were reported in lower Elk and Walnut creeks. The lake was rough in recent days with 5-foot waves reported midweek. Perch fishing was good before bad weather hit, with schools marked in various depths. Most were in 59 to 63 feet, although some were as deep as 70 feet and others were in 40 feet off Trout Run.
Allegheny River/Allegheny Reservoir (Warren County): Frank Alcorn of Mount Jewitt released a 52-inch muskie on a Legend Perchbait in the John Spinda Memorial Muskie Outing in the reservoir Saturday. Walleyes 18 to 22 inches and white bass were reported, mostly from shore, near the dam in recent evenings. Small northern pike and muskies were hitting in the river. Smallmouth bass were reported in Conewango Creek.
Tionesta Reservoir (Forest County): Ron Komer of Stoneboro released a 40-inch muskie on a Jerry Minteer Pikie lure during a Howard Wagner guide trip Sunday.
Allegheny River (Venango County): Rich Whiteside of Sewickley and a friend released a 36-inch muskie Sunday.
Woodcock Creek Lake (Crawford County): Smallmouth bass were reported in recent days.
Geneva Marsh (Crawford County): Ed Richards caught a 7-plus-pound, 271/4-inch bowfin with 14-inch girth in this large wetlands off I-79 Sunday.
Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County): Anglers were catching walleyes up to 28 inches jigging Sonars in about 14 feet, and muskies, 40 to 48 inches. As of Wednesday, crappies were still hitting in deep water.
Shenango Reservoir (Mercer County): Crappies in mixed sizes were being caught in shallower water in the early morning and around 5 p.m.
Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): Largemouth bass were hitting around weedbeds, crappies in 6 feet, and bluegills along the shoreline in recent days. The "stumps" has had very little fishing pressure lately.
Lake Arthur (Butler County): Anglers targeted hybrid striped bass and walleyes in 10 to 12 feet over old roadbeds and largemouth bass in shallower water last weekend through Monday. Kurt Reep of Kittanning caught a 2-pound 3-ounce, 14-inch crappie and some smaller ones, over brush piles last week.
Allegheny River: A mixed bag of species from walleyes to catfish were reported in recent days. Water was low Wednesday. The Venture Outdoors Downtown TriAnglers reported slow angling Wednesday off the North Shore. Highlights included Bernie Kielar's two freshwater drum, 17 and 131/2 inches, and Ella Lipchik's 15-inch flathead catfish.
Ohio River, Beaver River: Catfish and walleyes, including some up to 28 inches and 61/4 pounds, were reported in recent evenings. The mouth of Montour Run was yielding smallmouth bass.
Peter's Creek (Washington County): Anglers landed nice trout up to 18 inches from a recent club stocking on Powerbait and shrimp eggs in low conditions.
Youghiogheny River: Good smallmouth bass fishing was reported in recent days. Anglers also were catching trout. Small tan caddis, a few stoneflies and a few Blue-Winged Olives were hatching.
Mill Creek (Westmoreland County): Craig Nemchik of White Oak released a 20-inch brown trout on a Green Weenie in low conditions in the upper end of Mill Creek last week.
Spring Creek (Centre County): Flow was normal Wednesday. The trico hatch was winding down on recent mornings. Tan, olive and dun-color caddis (16-19) were sporadic, along with small Blue-Winged Olives (22-24). Productive patterns included Green Weenies, Hare's Ears, Pheasant Tails, scuds, cressbugs, ants and beetles. For more, visit www.tcoflyfishing.com.
Little Juniata River (Blair County): Flow was lower than normal Wednesday. Productive tactics included nymphing with Pheasant Tails, Hare's Ears, Green Weenies and caddis larvae (14-16), and stripping small streamers by the banks.
