Penn Hills is starting to shows signs why it entered this high school football season as the Post-Gazette's No. 1-ranked football team in Class AAAA.

Last night, the Indians (3-3, 2-0) handed Central Catholic its first conference loss in almost five years as they notched a 30-7 win against the defending WPIAL and PIAA champion Vikings (4-2, 1-1).

Central Catholic last lost a conference game Oct. 10, 2003, to Woodland Hills, 49-48, in overtime and had won 27 consecutive conference games since.

Penn Hills was sparked by an 86-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Aaron Donald in the first quarter to give it a 9-0 lead when it appeared as if the Vikings were driving for a go-ahead score.

Penn Hills increased its lead to 16-0 before the half when Tom Fulton connected with Dontae Brown on a 33-yard touchdown pass. The Indians got second-half scoring runs from Chris Darby from 4 yards and Teddy Blakeman from 2 yards while building a 30-0 lead.

Blakeman finished with a game-high 188 yards rushing on 31 carries as the visiting Indians rolled up 221 yards on the ground while limiting the Vikings to 36 yards rushing and 85 yards of total offense.
