State police yesterday subdued an unruly Greyhound bus passenger with a Taser after she tried to run into traffic on Interstate 70 in North Franklin.
Troopers took the 51-year-old woman to Washington Hospital for a psychological evaluation. She will not be charged.
"She's receiving treatment for mental issues," Trooper Joseph Christy said. Police did not identify the woman, who is from Kentucky.
Police said the woman and another passenger began arguing on the bus, which was bound from St. Louis to New York City with about 30 people aboard.
The woman hit the man and threw objects around. The driver pulled over and tried to defuse the situation. But the woman attacked him and reached for the controls.
When the driver called police, the woman calmed down until state troopers arrived and told her to stay put. Suddenly, she ran into the road.
Though there was no traffic passing at that time, Trooper James Amitrone shocked the woman with a Taser so he could get her off the highway quickly without having to tackle her, Trooper Christy said.
