The Pennsylvania Resources Council has announced fall backyard composting classes. Pre-registration is required and each participant will receive an Earth Machine compost unit (one per family). This year the council also is offering worm composting classes. The registration fee includes a worm bin and about a half-pound of red wigglers. The Southwestern Pennsylvania Hazardous Waste Task force will hold household hazardous waste collections 9 a.m.-1 p.m. next Saturday at Station Square and Oct. 4 at Bradys Run Park, Beaver County.

Residents can safely dispose of common household products such as cleaners, automotive fluids, paints, pesticides, car batteries and pool chemicals. A fee of $2 per gallon -- cash only -- will be charged for disposal. Information: 412-488-7452 or www.swpahhw.org.
