Te Fumbler went to Fashion Week in New York recently -- and it forced him to take a long look in the mirror. He realized his wardrobe was in need of a major overhaul.
Gone is the Tim Manoa North Allegheny throwback jersey he used to wear three times a week. He has traded that for some Ed Hardy T-shirts. Gone, too, are his beat-up old L.A. Gear high tops -- The Fumbler is now wearing some smooth Salvatore Ferragamo loafers.
And those Buddy Holly/Donnie Iris glasses? Well, he has ditched those for the Sarah Palin-style, Kawasaki rectangular specs.
No one needs glasses, though, to see how good The Fumbler truly is. Last week he had his best mark so far this year at 51-12 (.801 percentage). The Fumbler's season mark is now 139-52 (.728 pct.). Here are his thoughts on this weekend's top games:
Central Catholic at Upper St. Clair, 7:30 p.m. today -- Fast fact: Did you know Tunch Ilkin's son, Clay, plays receiver for Upper St. Clair? The Fumbler told that to his cousin, The Dribbler, and he responded: "Who is Tunch Ilkin?" Everyone will know how good Upper St. Clair is after this game. Winner: Upper St. Clair.
Ringgold at Thomas Jefferson, 7:30 p.m. today -- Ringgold might be the only team in the Big Seven Conference that could give Thomas Jefferson a game. But The Fumbler still thinks Thomas Jefferson by two touchdowns. Winner: Thomas Jefferson.
Aliquippa at Beaver, 7:30 p.m. today -- The Fumbler says Beaver coach Jeff Beltz needs some "props." Beaver Falls and Aliquippa get all the attention in the Midwestern Conference, but Beltz usually has a highly competitive team. Winner: Beaver.
Western Beaver at Rochester, 7:30 p.m. today -- Western Beaver QB Morgan Rice would be good for The Fumbler's name game. We hear Rice is instant offense, but does his Uncle Ben come to games? Stop laughing. Rice and Western Beaver are good enough to knock off the No. 1-ranked WPIAL Class A team. But this is Western Beaver's first road game. Winner: Rochester.
Serra at Fort Cherry, 7:30 p.m. -- Serra quarterback T.J. Heatherington is one of the best all-around players in Class A, with 491 yards rushing and 182 passing. But he won't be enough for Serra. Winner: Fort Cherry.
