Gusting winds and heavy rains rumbled through the region this afternoon, leaving nearly 10,000 people people without power.

By 11 p.m., Duquesne Light restored power to all but 600 of the 4,000 customers who were without power around the area including the North Side, Munhall, Penn Hills and West Homestead.

About 5,500 Allegheny Power customers in the region lost power in teh storm.

Winds of more than 70 mph were reported, and there were a number of reports of downed trees.

Power companies called in extra crews to remove downed trees from lines.
