Discounts to travelers

Ohio's Warren County, which promotes itself as Ohio's Largest Playground, is encouraging travelers to vacation close to home and is offering incentives to visit the area. Among these, select hotels are offering lodging discounts to travelers who present a gas receipt with a value of $20 or more.

Among the hotels will be Great Wolf Lodge, with special offers from attractions like The Beach Waterpark.

Participating businesses in the "Fill-Up on Savings" promotion can be viewed at the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau Web site, www.ohiolargestplayground.com.

The region is centrally located between Cincinnati and Dayton and includes Kings Island theme park.

Ohio state parks offer variety

Numbering seven in all, Ohio State Park Resorts span the state, offering diverse lodging, settings and packages.

Salt Fork Resort in southeast Ohio, for instance, posts an "Older, But Definitely Better" birthday getaway combining two nights' lodging with a bottle of champagne, daily breakfast and a $50 gift-shop credit, for $329 plus tax for two, valid Sunday-Thursday through Oct. 25.

Salt Fork's "Family Fun Package" puts the whole gang in a "bunk room" for one night, providing use of a GPS receiver for a day of "geocaching." With popcorn, soda and two movie rentals, this treasure hunt is priced at $159 per family, valid Sunday-Thursday May 27-Oct. 25. A second night may be added for $79. Tax is extra in all cases.
