The 2008 Winter Arbitron ratings showed little change compared with 2007.

Adult contemporary WSHH-FM moved up into the No. 3 spot. Oldies WWSW-FM also moved up on the charts.

At the lower end of the top 10 it was a very close race, with four stations in a two-way tie.

Contemporary hits WBZW-FM, which switched format last fall, gained a little ground and moved to 14th place, up from 18th a year ago.

Radio vets in business

Two local radio veterans -- Chris DeCarlo and Charlie Mitchell -- are launching a new business.

Radio personality DeCarlo left country station WDSY-FM's (107.9) morning team last fall. DeCarlo joined the station in 1987 as midday host and music director. She left in 1996 to work with record labels A&M and RCA and returned to WDSY in 2002.

Charlie Mitchell, another former on-air personality, was air talent/production and creative services director at WDSY until 2004.

DeCarlo-Mitchell Productions (www.decarlo-mitchellproductions.com) will offer voice-over and imaging services for all radio formats. The new venture launches Monday. (Adrian McCoy, Post-Gazette staff writer)

KDKA adds reporter

Matt DelSignore is joining the KDKA-AM (1020) news department later this month, reporting for the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts and anchoring during the John Steigerwald evening talk show. KDKA also is expanding its evening local newscasts to 10 p.m. The last one is currently heard at 8 p.m.

DelSignore, a Watertown, N.Y., native, comes to Pittsburgh from news/talk WGY-AM in Schenectady, N.Y., where he's an anchor and reporter. Before that, he worked at WSY-AM in Syracuse, N.Y., and WTNY in Watertown. (A.M.)

Back to the Riverhounds

Chris Shovlin is back as the voice of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds soccer broadcasts on WPIT-AM (730) and MSA Sports with the team's return this season. Shovlin has been announcer for the team since 2000.

Shovlin, who's news/sports anchor on the WJAS-AM (1320) morning show with Jack Bogut, also does play-by-play for Robert Morris Colonials basketball games and Comcast's high school sports telecasts. (A.M.)
